It would be hard to come out and speak, as Kerry did, against attrocities committed by one's comrades as war. It is and was very believable that he was doing a noble and honorable thing. After thirty-five years of popular rage against the war in Viet Nam, however, it should be easy for people who were there to come forward and corroborate his testimony.

The other reports are equally believable. That after the popular outcry against the soldiers who fought in that war, honorable men have become disgraced and were unable to speak up for themselves and their colleagues...partly because (like at Abu Graib) they knew there was some truth behind the allegations. In the case of Viet Nam we didn't have the kind of exposure that would get to the bottom of things like we do in Iraq. Now after all these years the Viet Nam Vets are challenging the status quo record that was based primarily on Kerry's reports.
