Playmates Toys reports results for first half 1997:
As mentioned prior, I had expected disappointing sales
of action figures in the wake of Star War mania to impact
first half results. It appears that revenues from Nano Pals
and "MDK" game video were only weakly reflected in this
period. Furthermore, according to the release, there were
"non-recurring expenses at the US division."

Thus, the picture for the first half is not a pretty
sight. However, the first half of any given year, in the
absence of a blockbuster toy or craze, is rarely something
to write home about. We have a new president of the US
division and lots of good prospects for the crucial
second half. That being said, I regret I can not bring
you a better news release. First half loss (US$14.06 mm)
