Terry, It has never been a democracy. It has always been a republic. We have had many Presidents who didn't win the popular vote. Dubya of course, and John Quincy Adams. Wait a second, they were both sons of Presidents. I see a pattern here. Too bad John John is dead. We have had many more, perhaps, most, who didn't win the majority of the votes due to third party voting. For example, Tricky Dick only got a bit over 43% of the popular vote in 1968. He got 60% in 1972, in the middle of Watergate, so we do love our crooks.

Anyway, we are no longer a republic, either. We are a duelistic plutocracy. The wealthy and corporations pick suitable candidates (Howard Dean, no, Lovey, ex him out. Sharpton, puhleese. He looks like he's black or something. Joe Biden, way too smart) who lean slightly left, are in the middle or far right. We will never see another McGovern or Gene McCarthy running for a major party. In fact, we haven't seen one Gene McCarthy yet. He was sabotaged by RFK, a lefty, but "one of us."

Then, we are allowed to vote for either of the approved candidates or no chance third party candidates. And many of us feel like we did something.

No wonder 18 year olds don't vote. They haven't had enough Kool-Aid yet.

We have the freedom to pick the Skull and Boner nearest to our hearts, and I rarely have a boner near my heart. <G>
