one of the things I've been noticing are black boxes with colored lights on it that the guards glance at before I put my bags on the conveyor belt and go through the metal detectors. I've been wondering if it's a radiation detector, or a "sniffer", or just part of the metal detector or what. Any ideas? I have not seen that...though we certainly have lots of sniffing gear and Wash DC has every security device imaginable.
