The Caliph is supposed to have said, "if the ideas in the books are not in the Koran, they are wrong, if they are in the Koran we don't need them duplicated."

A bit hard to reconcile that statement with the fact that Muslims preserved much of the intellectual content of the West while the Catholic church was doing its best to destroy it.

The library of the Alhambra supposedly contained more books than the rest of Europe combined. During the Middle Ages the general flow of technology and science was from Islam to Europe rather the reverse.
