I watched Mr. Ridge's press conference live on yesterday. His prepared text did not mention why he was thanking Pakistan.

Furthermore, by now you would have thought that the Bush Administration would have learnt about hoax threats from their captures of major Al Qaeda figures. I wonder that if the Bush Administration was serious about busting the sleeper cells here, would they not want to just keep quiet and at the same time increase the level of surveillance so as to catch those folks in the act? We know well that if the law and order agents are tipped off about an impending act, they just go out and stalk the place where the criminal act is likely to occur. Instead, if they make a big noise then the criminals get tipped off and run away. So I do not understand why this Administration announces such threats, then nothing happens except that it adds to an increase in people's complacency. The credibility of this Administration is very low considering the failure of intelligence, the secrecy on how they function etc. So I think they need to be very careful in issuing these warnings.

How about Bush telling the folks "Prosperity is around the corner." You think anybody believes him?
