Whatever the ideological bent of the WSJ, it is one of the two or three most respected newspapers in the U.S. They have not hesitated to be critical of Bush when they feel it is appropriate. Poll people inside the Beltway and I think that you will find that Paul Gigot's opinions are well regarded.

Bob Novak has an interesting take on Kerry's cautious speech. The rumored dramatic gesture would have electrified his campaign. As we are seeing today, Bush is regaining the initiative on the 9/11 Commission recommendations.
