Pakistan and China will launch first-ever four-day anti-terrorism military exercise from Tuesday (today).

Code-named "Youyi (Friendship)-2004", the exercise will be participated by Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the armed forces of Pakistan. The exercise will take place near the Sino-Pak border in Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County, northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

During the exercise, there will be live firing and use of most advanced weapons, giving joint demonstration of anti-terrorism operation. Defence sources told APP here on Monday that the exercise would help strengthen cooperation between the two countries and armies, improve the capacity of combating terrorism and crack down on the forces of separatism and terrorism.

The exercise will also give boost to bilateral cooperation in non-traditional security field and maintain security and stability in the region, the sources said. China had conducted naval exercises with Pakistan on the coast of Shanghai in October last. The drill, simulating an emergency rescue, was the first time China had engaged in joint naval operations with another nation.
