The CIA's Phoenix Program was very successful. US military special Forces were used to go behind enemy lines and assassinate suspected VC leaders. The favorite method of was be-headings and disenbowelment. The SEALS which did a lot of the killing were nicked "the Green Ghosts".

The military does not record their history for obvious reasons, but you can read about them in "Everything We Were" which is about 20 soldiers telling you their true tales. best book there is about Vietnam straight from the soldiers mouths. Kerry may have known some of the soldiers in the CIA assassination programs. Otherwise, Agent Orange and Napalm were both atrocities, as were tyhe various village massacres and other incidents.

BTW: I approve of extreme measures against real enemies, but looking back it's clear, Vietnam never attacked us. The war was a complete mistake. McNamara realized that in the end and made a film about it called "The Fog Of War".
