How did they make it an issue?

By overturning or seeking to change laws, or by ignoring laws they where sword to upheld while also going against majority opinion.

You must have great bed time stories. The issue of marriage typically has been a states' rights/local issue........you know the issue that was a major plank in Bush's 2000 campaign. However, when some local communities went in a direction that upset the all so moralistic righties, Bush and his confederates suddenly changed their position and tried to make it a federal issue. Its the ultimate in hypocrisy.

So make sure you place the blame squarely on the shoulders of the right. If the GOP isn't complaining about gays getting married, they're complaining about blacks and whites getting married or blacks sitting at the front of the bus or women getting equal pay or animals getting too close to humans or the sky is too blue........and on and on and on.

Does it mean every time some one does something they are trying to make it an issue out of it?

No. When I drive to work in the morning I am not "making an issue of it". But when a lawsuit is brought to try and strike down a law, or when a law is stricken by a judge, or when a local offical just ignores the law then you have examples of people "making an issue out of it". You could argue that the issue should be raised and even that it should be raised now. You might want to argue that not doing so would be an injustice. But if you argue that and also condemn that conservatives for also fighting the issue at this time then you are being hypocritical. It either is a good time to argue and fight this issue or it isn't. I'll let you pick. If it is a good time then the specific way you have been bashing the GOP is wrong. If it is not a good time then that bashing needs to be targeted at least as much on the left as it is on the right.

How do you think an issue is raised in this country? How do you think a law is changed in this country? I swear I think the real problem is you guys just don't like the way a democracy works.
