Kerry's "weakness" is not his military service in VN, his weakness is his behavior afterwards....in the 70s.....and his abysmal voting record in the Senate regarding defense and intelligence, so you're right, republicans should and will use it against him. No one is denying his service, and for once, I'd like to see one example of where someone (outside of the wonks who post on SI) said Kerry doesn't deserve respect for his service to our country.....just one.
I don't know of many families of POW/MIA that support Kerry. Did some come out during the convention, or before, or after that I missed?

His tone and demeanor are also a weakness.
Between him and his wife, they each constantly remind us of the nasty elitist monkey sitting their backs. Look at some of the contentious things Terry says (shove it) and the support she gets from John (by calling protesters "goons") when she does. And the Hollywood crowd that call people all sorts of disgusting names, create propagandist "documentaries" and use props to demonstrate their hatred for the president and republicans in general because they happen not to agree with their pov. Find me information where you've seen these kinds of tactic used by conservatives to destroy a political opponent.....please.
Common folk don't like to be led by belligerent elitists.
I know there are other important issues that need to be debated, and I look forward to those debates, but I believe it will come down to which one of them is perceived as being more capable of leading our country during a time of war.
If Americans haven't learned by now that we are in danger, or learned the lesson of the past regarding our defense, then they deserve what they get.
