Of course we should use the smart bombs, but we should be under no illusions that there will not be collateral damage. I am not saying we should not be careful. But our first job is to protect the lives of american soldiers and we are doing that now only by avoiding active combat in hot zones and suffering trickle down casualties from the terrorists that we are ignoring. We need to make up our mind and go one way or the other. When Kerry comes in he will probably follow the well thought out but misguided biden/wesley clark ideas about increasing troops strength and perhaps instituting a draft that will lead not to a JFK2 admin but a LBJ type quagmire. The dems always do this in trying to prove they are tougher than the reps. Nixon ran and won in 1968 on a get out of vietnam plan, albeit one that took way too long to do. Why cant bush pick up the mantle of declaring victory over saddam butchers, give the wmd seal of approval and say the iraqis need to determing their own fate. Again things are hopeful in 2/3 of the country and thats where the oil resides to boot. Or if one wont buy into this, then unleash the full force of our military on the terrorists and take no prisoners. We must end this war one way or the other before it metastasizes further. I am playing devils advocate yesterday and today becasue i am struck by the similarities with vietnam--not the war but life on the home front. mike
