Kansas is largely dominated by Koch Oil, a huge private firm which funds many rightwing operations. Other than that, rural midwesterners are generally conservative christians and Bush has clearly played to their fears. Plus Kansas is pretty much all white.

Missouri is the state where Kerry has to stop Bush. It's tied now. Usually Missouri votes for the winner. However if Kerry wins Florida he doesn't need it. I like the looks of the Florida polls. They may finally be getting over their Bushitis. But Kerry can even lose Florida, Ohio and Missouri so long as he wins West Virginia or Nevada. Bush has to win all of them. Kerry has banked New Hampshire, Michigan and Pennsylvania now. Next he needs to nail down Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Then it will come down to those final big six battleground states.
