Hi Roger -

SCSI can be tricky, but normally it works as follows: if you have an existing (non-SCSI) hard drive, that will be recognized by your mainboard BIOS as drive 'C' (the boot drive). If there are no other drives available, than the SCSI controller will assign the device at SCSI address '0' to be drive 'C'. The drive at address '1' will be assigned letter 'D'. Since the Syjet appears as just another hard drive to the controller, if it is assigned target address '0', there should be no problem booting from it. Only warning is that you will probably have to reboot if you swap cartridges.

With regard to backing up to a Syjet, your problems are solved (assuming you don't have a problem paying for the cartridges). The Syjet comes with it's own backup program specifically designed for your application.

Although I am now able to get rapid responses from specific contacts I have made in Syquest Tech Support, and they are quite forthcoming, they have yet to resolve a single issue presented to them. i.e. no utilities are available for NT. The Win 95 utilities do not work on my Win 95 system (supposed to be corrected in some "future" release). Support for 32 bit disk access under Windows for Workgroups does not work with a different hard drive in the IDE controller. NT does not recognize multiple partitions on removable devices. Have problems formatting partitions under DOS, works fine under NT, however NT can only access the first partition... Some or all of these problems may be limited to the EIDE version of the Syjet, so I'm not sure how many of them you'll encounter with the SCSI version. My guess is that if you connect the SCSI version to a Win 95 system, you won't have any problems. Any other configuration is a crap shoot.

Best wishes,

Joe
