The problem with OBL is that he's becoming a nonstarter in the face of other AQ and non AQ terrorist attacks.

I'd agree that capturing OBL is less important now than it was 3 years ago. AQ has reorganized [they didn't wait until the 9/11 commission report], but it would be "symbolic". Consider that late Sept of 2001, Bush had spent nearly half his Presidency clearing brush in Crawford, the economy was in the toilet, and nearly 3,000 people had died as the result of successful terrorist attacks. "Logic" would suggest that his poll numbers would have been in the toilet...

This month, the Dems are down to limited spending since they have their candidate (why did they do this?) while the RNC can still spend private money on attack ads.

The primaries and convention were scheduled early so the nomination would be early, so they could collect more money early...the conventional wisdom is that no one is paying attention to politics during August. I can't say that's right or wrong, but that's how I understand it.

Bush sucks but the RNC attack ads may play to the people who aren't paying any attention to reality

I have no doubt that it's going to get uglier as time goes on. .... factcheck.org
