I went out yesterday afternoon and looked around in a couple of local electronics stores yesterday to see how the nation-wide DVD software roll-out was going. I was disappointed. First I went to the Good Guys. The good news was that they had a large sign outside that said DVD. But it had been there a couple of months. The people inside didn't even know about the new SW. Their SW selection was pitiful. The salesmen I spoke with said DVD hadn't done very well since they had them.

Next I went to Circuit City. They had a much better selection of SW most of which was priced at $19. That sounds reasonable to me. They had only had DVD boxes for a couple of days, but no one I spoke to had even seen one sale yet. These guys were more enthsiastic than the Good Guys. They were expecting sales to pick up nearer to Christmas when more SW was available. Neither store had any mention of DVD in their back to school advertising multi-page flyers.

The only good news is that Circuit City was demoing DVD in their home theater room. There were six people in the room and all were very impressed with the quality. Twister was playing and the image was great. Maybe more demos like this will increase sales. Some advertising would help. Personally I'm waiting for the second generation machines. I figure price will come down and quality will be better. I would also like to buy a machine with CUBE inside. Anyone know when one will be available in San Diego? Any other reports from the national roll-out of SW?
