The National Guard NOW and the National Guard during Vietnam are two completely different animals. With the end of the cold war, that National Guard was integrated into the Armed Forces as a reserve component. During Vietnam, the National Guard was NEVER called up for overseas duty, but was to to repel the communists if they invaded the contenintal United States. Only disciplinary Guard screw ups (like Dumbya) were drafted into the regular military and sent to Vietnam.
