Where human rights are concerned, utilitarianism is exactly what we must flee. You see, none of us is gifted with the natural authority to declare what is practical for another, especially where people who cannot defend themselves are concerned. The most human thing to do is continually learn, in full honesty, what we are in nature and then protect us, whether as a philosophical ideal or as literal entities. We need not rely upon any arbitrariness at all. We merely need rely upon what we see before us in nature.
There is a logical structure in nature that when it exists within matter, compels such human expression as cell division-- the dividing cells naturally compounding to themselves express into, amongst other things, human nervous systems. These nervous systems naturally express certain responses to bio-chemical reactions within and around them and this self-directed expression serves as the basis of other even higher expressions, one of which we know as "consciousness."
So we see that the experience of consciousness is merely an expression of a more fundamental biological expression. All of these expressions are your identity. Since this identity accounts for human consciousness, it cannot with reason be ignored in any definition of humanity. Any declaration of humanity based solely upon an attribute that is itself predicated upon a more fundamental human identity is necessarily incomplete and arbitrary.
Your fundamental identity did not exist in you until a very specific time; but it existed between your parents before existing in you. Before you existed as a logical value in nature (i.e. a “biological value”), the genetic value that now comprises and sustains you existed precisely one half in your father and one half in your mother. When your parents combined this information, the combined identities formed your fundamental identity. From that moment onward, you could not help but begin to self-express such things as cell-division, ultimately to express eyes, a nose, a mouth, hunger, anxiety, love, hate, poetry and the analysis of the note you are reading right now. Your human identity is most fundamentally expressed in the informational marriage that took place between your one mother and one father. All that you are and all that you now do is rooted directly in that marriage. Without it, you literally do not exist and nothing that you do or have done can exist. This bio-informational marriage is you in a nutshell. It is why both abortion and homosexuality are not you and are therefore naturally wrong (i.e. anti-you).
Both these things are literal sins against your human nature. Both of these evils are contrary to human identity. Both are literally inhuman since they are contrary to the identity of all humans everywhere. It is also why divorce is naturally wrong. The idea of the separation of our parents is philosophically contrary to our biological identity. |
