SLANDER! Kerry represented the soldiers AGAINST the policy-makers in his congressional testimony. He may have used graphic language, but it was all perfectly true, and the shock value of it helped expose the white-washings, lies and callousness of the top brass and White House toward the situation on the ground in Nam. By then the place was a hopeless meatgrinder and over 50,000 Americans had already died. And for what? Atrocities were more than just a daily occurance, they were part of the CIA and Pentagon's strategy as anyone who knows about the Phoenix Program can tell you. The CIA's Phoenix Program was an assassination program which included orders to be-head and dis-embowel VC suspects for terror reasons. Agent Orange, napalm and carpet bombing could also be called atrocities since they were atb the very least highly destructive toxic overkill. Vietnam was a shameful chapter of our history which we hopefully have learned from. We made a lot of mistakes. Kerry was one who helped us stop making them and has helped the healing process. BTW, Kerry's own unit committed at least one atrocity, one by Steven Gardner, the gunner who is now the only Kery crewman backing Bush.
