Re: Gus > that's only half the story... The other half was all about sweeping the far-right underground under the rug.
That's another, and a more complex story.
Well, actually, it might be a pretty simple story... As I pointed out, T. McVeigh --a far-right martyr-- was executed on 611, that is, exactly three months before 911. Now, we all agree that the guy wasn't a loner: he belonged to the militia underground... and had several accomplices.
At that point, it might have made sense for some of them to contrive a reprisal of sorts... I mean, a plot to avenge the execution of McVeigh by the "arch-villain" Federal government. A prime target for McVeigh's followers would be Justice officials at the federal level --like the wife of US Solicitor General Theodore B. Olson... Another plot might just consist of hijacking US airliners... get the picture?
So here goes the 911 far-right underground scenario: McVeigh avengers hijack four US airliners simultaneously... the US government --read: Veep Cheney-- orders the USAF to shoot them down... finally, in an attempt to avoid civil war, the Bush administration turns the whole crisis into a Bin-Laden terrorist ploy... A master stroke, isn't it? The Bush administration successfully preempted the far-right's domestic terrorism and used it as a springboard to further its own geopolitical agenda (first in Afghanistan and next in Iraq)... funneling America's outrage and hatred ABROAD, channelling the excess heat of the US cauldron OUTSIDE and towards the Arab/Muslim bogeyman.... Of course, it means that Cheney and his fixers knew of the hijack plot in advance... They let the "McVeigh cell" proceed with its terrorist scheme and merely planted bombs in the WTC, the Pentagon, and the State Dept... As I said earlier, Cheney hijacked the hijackers!
