In my view it's an error to perceive these numbers as credible - simply due to their convergence with what appears to be reality...

The Fed is still busily manipulating events - and indicators remain a tool to shape perceptions - not an accurate indicator of conditions on the ground (except as coincidence).

The salient question, in my view, is what the Fed hopes to engineer with the "surprise"?
