Actually, I bookmarked both threads out of curiosity and as a reminder to move them to the Politics forum if (when) the inevitable rhetoric erupts.

People can add and remove a SubjectMark as often as they want. Every time someone adds a thread to their SubjectMarks, the counter is incremented. Likewise, every time they remove it, the counter is decreased. So, the counter shows how many users have the thread SubjectMarked at that given moment.

Not very scientific, to be sure. However, there's a chance, albeit an outside one, that the board survey feature (ala iHub) will be enabled on the new site before the election.
