I imagine from his POV, he sees the neocon issue as a temporary problem that will get rectified in the future. The neocons have a simple tactic of declaring a crisis and then demanding unity. The crisis may be moral, fiscal, or terrorist but they trot it out whenever someone strays. So long as McCain falls for it over and over the neocons will always be in charge and he will always be bitter that he was forced to play the good soldier again. The neocons are not going to volunteer to go quietly in the night. A sharp tounge does not make him less of a wimp. TP
