But how many houses do we need? As the baby boomers start to slip into their restful years, will they want to continue to pay for upkeep on these huge homes? I think the housing industry is not unlike the auto industry in that they seem to miss the big picture. Homes and Hummers? Meanwhile the Japanese are killing the American auto makers again.

Statisic: In 1950 the average size of a house was less than 1,000 feet - today it is 2,330. That is an increase of 268% - meanwhile what has happened to the size of families? Decline of 20% (3.1 vrs 2.6 today).

A pause in the buble might cause people to rethink.
