Traditionally, the AS400 (and UNIX boxes in general) have not been marketed as file/print servers.

You don't need the horsepower that the AS400 (or RISC-based) machines to provide simple network services. The bottleneck is the network backbone. That is why this function is traditionally departmentalized.

The AS400e announcement is important, but not much more then a new product announcement of faster/cheaper/better that customers expect from IBM.
