It's about paying your dues for the opportunity to be an American. It is about doing your duty. All Americans young and old should have to pay their dues. In fact for most of those who do their obligated service they would come home a much better person and citizen. This is in fundamental opposition to the founding idea of America - that man, due to his nature, possesses the rights to life, liberty, and property. He does not need to "earn" these rights in a Republic like he might have to in a monarchy or dictatorship.
