Samsung Electronics Olympic Gold Phone (SCH-E470 Premium) released in limited numbers to mark the 2004 Athens Olympic Games is receiving enthusiastic responses at an on-line auction that started at 10 am on Thursday (local time).

The price reached record-breaking 14 million won or 12,000 dollars at three o`clock Sunday and is likely to rise further as the auction continues for another four days.

Samsung Electronics, an official sponsor of the 2004 Athens Olympics, launched two versions of the luxury phone, a special phone and a premium phone. Every two of the six Gold Phones put up for the on-line auction are for SK Telecom, KTF and LG Telecom respectively and exclusive serial numbers such as Athens 0001 or Athens 0002 are inscribed on each product.

The bidding price of the Gold Phone already four-times exceeded the price of the company¡¯s Matrix Phone (SPH-N270) released last year. Matrix Phone was sold at 2,235 dollars on E-bay, a US-based online auction in June 2003 and at 355,000 yen six month later in Japan.
