Absolutely. It's OK to wage a political attack, just make sure it's backed up by facts or at least strong circumstantial evidence.

The ShiftyVets make their statements by fabricating stories but also because in their minds, they consider Kerry a "traitor", just as Ted Sampley of the VetsAGainstKerry claims both McCain and Kerry are "traitors". Why? Because they both supported ending the atrocious Vietnam War and later normalizing relations with Vietnam. This exposes these anti-Kerry vets groups as being extreme rightwing voices out of touch with reality.

Many say Michael Moore is the same thing. But there is a big difference. Moore has a top fact-checker working for him and makes sure that all his facts are checkable, even if his opinions are just his opinions. The ShiftyVets therefore are going over the line, by pretending to be telling the truth, rather that just expressing an extremist minority wrong-headed opinion. They also I believe deliberately lie.

BTW: I think anyone who says Bush planned or condoned 9-11 is just as big a liar as the ShiftyVets. Bush did ignore terror, let Bin Laudens out of the country and mislead us on Iraq, but I'm sure he did not see 9-11 coming nor deliberately cover up for the Bin Lauden family.

Also, I do believe Bush disappeared for 7 months in 1972 and he admits he left the Guard 8 months early. So that's 15 months he cannot deny he was not reporting for duty as is supposed to be mandatory. Attacking Bush for his Guard record is therfore supported by facts. Attacking Kerry's Vietnam record is slanderous since the Navy itself called his record there superlative.
