Amy... Amy...
If I were the gov of California, I'd collect a lot more revenue from speeding tickets and tailgating. Nothing a little highway automation wouldn't catch . .
Hold your horses Marshall Dillon...
How about placing a real test in order to get a driving license? Instead of issuing licenses to a bunch of idiots, who have absolutely no idea what their cars can or cannot do? Requiring competence in their driving skills...
Including the ability to perform a high speed (75 mph) slalom test and a number of other fast reaction exercises before anyone can get a license...
You may say... Speed Kills... yet the statement is false and incomplete... Incomplete because it should read... Speed Kills in direct proportion to the stupidity of the driver behind the wheel
It is false, because there are many other elements that affect a fatal accident. To use such a catchy slogan that it is only too easy (and politically correct), in order to justify the revenue generator that speeding tickets really are... just like you suggest that the Gov ought to "charge more"
What rubbish... 'Guns Kill' too ? no they don't, it is the people pulling the trigger who do... same with cars, speed is one factor of many, speed alone does not kill, it is the lack of skill of the individual behind the wheel that do the killing.
Today's automobile technology have far outstripped the average person's ability who can obtain a license to drive... another one of those consequences of lowering to the minimum possible common denominator...

Amy, I am a little surprised...
Dumbing-down the masses will NOT give you the strong leadership type of country you are longing to have... These laws -speeding tickets- have NOTHING to do with safety, it has to do with revenue of cash-strapped communities... The dumbing-down part is required in order to justify the tickets...
Putting a leash on the freedom that politicians and bureaucrats have to squander their respective treasuries is far more beneficial, which would increase the overall welfare of their communities is far more important
The drivers in the Autobahn do not seem to be suffering of daily massacres, yet, the speed of the slow lane is roughly about 80 - 90 mph... the left lane is about 130 - 140 mph... and if you happen to be driving slower, they just flash their lights asking politely to 'move aside, I am coming faster'
Here, they get all out of shape and think they have been castrated because you passed them and hell... they don't move, you have to take them on the right side....
The real problem is that people start believing in the fantasies that politicians dream up
