The point is that these similarities are not discussed in the media or by politicians.
Noel, I just looked at your post again and something struck me about the way we build our knowledge of things. It has to do with making unseen subjective judgements unawares, and then becoming aware of these distictions, with making mistakes early on that lead to complications down the road. The reason that you don’t see these all these similarities being discussed, is because ceteris paribus, there is one condition that in terms of proximity to the point of causal motivation, might be considered vital, in virtue by which I mean that this is the spot where the matter of degree really counts. If this is true, it would make this thing a more of a difference, than a similarity, in which case it would be in the wrong column so to speak. This is what makes the art of economic hypothesis so tricky, we land up with a lot of lousy theories that don’t find what we are looking for. Lots of treasure gets wasted this way. Again ceteris paribus I think that this is more of a difference than a similarity, and it points to precisely why there is so much discussion, I think that this is self evident.
