You've got to be kidding. These things don't have short shelf lifes! CSCO builds a 12 port 10/100/1GB Ethernet switch, and its shelf life is about 3 years!

Cisco's switches and routers aren't the type of things that get new upgrades and become obsolete every 3 months. That's the advantage of being a monopoly - innovation from competitors dries up, so they can control the upgrade cycle.
