i had a feeling too. it's why i left
work in the middle of the day and went
to her house.

after she died i stepped out on the patio alone.
it was a hot and windless august afternoon.
a soft transient breeze visited and cooled me
gently... it pinged the wind chimes ever so softly.
the leaves on the trees became one millionth
of one percent greener... the sky, an equal
amount bluer. the edges of the cumulus clouds
building over the sandias sharpened and became
more defined.

the energy that had for so long flowed through
her was moving back into the main body.
