Here are some guesses as to why Bush sat for 7 minutes while the nation was under attack:

1) He wanted to hear how the book ended. He'd had a pet goat as a kid, too.

2) He thought Card said: "The nation is under a Dick", and was trying to figure out if Card meant him or Cheney.

3) He couldn't get up because his chad was hanging.

4) He was waiting for Cheney to shine the Bat Signal.

5) He was contemplating setting up a command post right there in the classroom.

6) He was lamenting the loss of all those future vacation days.

7) He was furiously clicking together the heels of his red aligator cowboy boots.

8) He couldn't decide if he was supposed to duck under the desk, or "stop, drop, and roll".

9) He was wondering if Neil could still get him that job at the bank.

10) He was considering what a nice place this classroom was, and did they have an opening for a class aide.
