No, I don't think that we should vote for someone based solely on their service. But that experience is valuable.

We have O'Neil arguing the opposite here though...that his service disqualifies Kerry. If you think that service to country is so insignificant then take that up with O'Neil.

Kerry's service is but one part of who he is. Same for Bush. But with Bush we saw how he avoided service. How he avoided combat. What does it say about him? About his qualifications to be Commander in Chief?

I'm voting for Kerry for many reasons. His service in Vietnam is not a deciding factor for me. I'd rather have a guy in the White House that is not a religious and PNAC ideologue. We've had enough of that in the last four years. What we need in the White House is a guy who knows when to put down his copy of "My Pet Goat" and get busy fighting terrorism.
