I wish I had the time and talent to write of some of my visits to Croatia, Slovenia, Greece and Turkey which echo these same sentiments.

I literally couldn't by a beer in a local bar in Slovenia last year, the owner and the patrons were so taken by having an American in the place they just kept buying me round after round.

In Grete (way off the beaten path), I stayed at a small hotel and the owner brought me breakfast to my room on the house, opened the small pool after hours because I was hot, and tried to give away his 20 something year old daughter who worked there.

In Croatia, I was at a restaurant where the owner kept offering me different wines he had stored up for years. Of course I couldn't refuse a couple...:)

And I have been invited to more homes for dinner than I can remember in Italy.

It's one of the main reasons I say foreign polls of anti-Americanism must be grossly exaggerated.
