Thursday August 12, 2004--After flirting with two-year highs for most of July, America's economic confidence has declined over the past week.

The Rasmussen Consumer Index dropped three points on Thursday to 116.3. The Index, which measures the economic confidence of American consumers on a daily basis, is down four from a week ago and down three from a month ago. However, it is up seven from three months ago. Today's reading is the lowest for the Consumer Index since June 14.

The Rasmussen Investor Index lost three points on Thursday to 136.5. It is down seven from a week ago and down three from a month ago. However, the Investor Index is up six from three months ago.

Thirty-six percent (36%) of Americans now say the U.S. economy is in a recession while 42% say it is not. A week ago, those numbers were 35% and 46% respectively.

Among Investors, 31% say the economy is in a recession. That's up from 28% a week ago.
