Maurice - At least you have the intelligence to get on your surf board
and take the time to read about B-CDMA . Are you aware that there are
over 90 instiutions that hold QCOM. Have you ever seen what happens
to a stock that they sell off ? Did you know that Salasmi who was in
charge of QCOM and their CDMA left and went to a new company called
Nextwave Communications. Yes thats the same company that just bid
billons of dollars and won most of spectrum that the FCC auctioned off. They are going to use Qualcomms CDMA . There is going to be an IPO on Nextwave and I look for it to sizzle along with QCOM. That is the only way they will ever be able to pay the FCC I beleive about 7 billion they owe them. The investment firms that made QCOM will be pushing it all over the country. If its successful look for a fast run on QCOM. If not look for the exit. Isn't it amazing how a brand
new company paid more than the big telecomms for spectrum. Craig Macaw
was knocked out of the bidding because he said it was outrageously high. All of the present systems that are up and running were subsidized. Remember how much the cellular phones were at first and now you can get them for almost nothing. Who is going to go into a market using Chicago for example that has 3 providers already and get people to switch over to a CDMA system. The only reason would be because its cheaper. Can Qualcomm subsidize or are the providers that are going to buy from them make the price of the phone and the service so cheap that people will switch ? No one cares what technology they are using only that they get a dial tone. Lucent is still trying to get the CDMA out on a commercial basis in Chicago for Ameritech and they have been working on it for a very long time. ATT this fall is going to put in a GSM system. The remark about GSM and TDMA being one in the same is correct. The difference between the two is one is a open system and the other is closed. The TDMA systems that are mostly in the USA cannot use switches or parts from another infrastructre manufacturer. Its kind of like an IBM PC . On the other side of the coin GSM is what we would call IBM compatible . You can use a different mother board or sound card in it. Once again I think the Europeans have chose the right avenue with GSM. The GSM technology is now being used in over 90 countries and I mean large systems. How many CDMA systems are up beside test sites ? There is no comparision. There are some on this board that say beware of IDC but let me ask you this.
How much did QCOM get for their licensing or what percentage will they get from the licensees ? All thats ever been said in their releases is they have a mutil million, multi year agreement. What are they hiding from the share holders ? Now lets take IDC. Every agreement they have made they have stated what revenues it will bring in. Siemens for example gave them 20,000,000 plus 5 %. All one has to do verify this is look at the 8-k.
