Actually, from what I have read, Bush admits that he was in conflict about our involvement in Vietnam, but felt he had to serve in some manner (he could easily have gotten a slot in grad school for a deferment). I do not see entering the Air Guard as draft dodging. It is a legitimate form of service, and National Guard troops were sometimes called up as reserves in combat areas. For a young man ambivalent about the war, it seems just about right.
