So is it O'Neil in that clip I have been seeing saying that Kerry "called us all war criminals"? I didn't know who it was. If so, that is helpful, thanks.

So the Swift vets feel that he was indicting them.


I can understand how they would feel that way. I can understand how any Viet Nam vets would feel abused by us, in general, and Kerry in particular and how they would have a sensitivity to such comments. Feeling like Kerry was indicting them, however, is not the same thing has Kerry "calling us all war criminals." It's one thing to make an accusation like that in casual conversation or during a debate at the local VFW or as an excited utterance. We understand exaggeration and overstatement under those circumstances. It is another matter to overstate that way in a book or a written statement or testimony or a political ad. As reluctant as I am to use the L word, you'd have to call that a lie if O'Neil's basis for his accusation is how Kerry's words made him and others feel rather than what Kerry actually said. The most he can get away with and stay short of a lie, IMO, is to assert that Kerry seemed to imply that they were all war criminals or some such qualification. Beyond that it's lying.
