Karen, you seem to like analogies....what would you do in this case?

You are an owner of the company you started. Finally you have grown your sales and have 10 employees. You need now a really good IT person.

Your choices are: one who is very very good in every area of the IT world...could do the job, and has the potential to help you grow the company. He unfortunately, has an attitude problem....not good references as far as being on time, doesn't get along with well with others, is narcissistic, and very definitely wants to be the boss.

Your other choice is: a person who can do the job now, is smart, not lots of experience but has the education to be an asset, and most important has a great attitude.

Both of them are in the salary range you can afford. Who would you hire? And why?
