There is one potential problem by discouraging discussions at present. Your three threads will fall off the hot lists quicker, meaning less people will find your threads. Also the Politics/Government Forum, by default, only shows thread on which people have posted within the last seven days. So if no one is posting on the threads, they will disappear from seven day default list of active threads and fewer people may find it.

Also, you may want to keep a running count in the original post area of each of the three threads so a person doesn't have to hunt for the two they didn't bookmark to see how things are going.
