Krauthammer misreads the Swift Boat attack

I agree. Kerry's swiftboat experience may be a trivial issue compared to the real issues of the campaign, but it was Kerry who put it front and center and used it fairly successfully as a shield from all criticism. If you have a deastating counter to that, one that is factual and above-board, you use it, you don't sit on it. Particularly as these Swiftvets are not acting as proxies of the Bush campaign, they are pissed off themselves at Kerry, so it would be tough for Bush to stop them if he wanted to. And he doesn't really want to.

If Kerry hadn't made his service a central pillar of the campaign, then I would agree, the Bush campaign shouldn't either. But Kerry did make it a central pillar of the campaign.
