Michael Reagan to Address GOP Convention

Conservative commentator Michael Reagan, son of President Ronald Reagan, will address the GOP convention when Republicans gather in New York City later this month, Fox News.com reported on Thursday.

The decision to invite the late president's son will offer Republicans a fitting way to pay tribute to the party's most successful 20th century president - as well as counter Democrats, who had Ron P. Reagan address their convention in Boston last month.

Ron P. said he didn't intend his address advocating embryonic stem cell research to be political, but his opposition to President Bush on that issue and others was played up by Democrats for maximum embarrassment to the White House.
But while Ron P. has done little to carry on his father's political legacy - he didn't even show for a San Diego homeport debut ceremony attended by his mother and brother last month for the aircraft carrier USS Reagan - Michael has been an unabashed supporter of Reaganism and unofficial keeper of his father's political legacy.

On his nationally syndicated radio show, as well as in frequent appearances on the Fox News Channel, Michael Reagan kept the nation updated in recent years on his father's deteriorating health.

When the fortieth president died in June, Michael shared personal remembrances of the lessons he learned growing up as the son of the American icon, giving the nation an unprecedented insider's view into the character and values that guided his father's political career.
