I don't know if people here generally even see it as corruption. It's just the way things are done. For example, the Asbury Park Press (big paper in Central Jersey) went after State Senator John Bennett for all sorts of malfeasances, some relatively small like putting his mom and MIL on the state payroll for some sort of senior activities job at $7,000/year, and some big, like taking a legal job from the town of Marlboro, where he was town attorney, subcontracting it out at $60/hour, and then billing the town for the work at his own rates of $150/hour. Yet most people I talked to had no problem with that! Didn't even see it as a breach of legal ethics, never mind breaking the law. Amazing.
