"OK, now has anyone else noticed that there are lots of people, organizations, etc. selling these very things [insurance, mutual fund distributor] already?"

But what is Intuit's strength? Installed base and name recognition. Intuit is not selling their own insurance or mutual funds, they are being third party providers: they provide the installed base of customers to financial institutions (i.e. advertisers), and provide to Quicken users unbiased ("Intuit will never be captive to a single financial institution." S Cook) information.

"Intuit is in an extremly difficult product transition" indeed.
