How Does Struggling Novell Spell Relief?

Troubled Novell just reported a $122 million loss, and
its stock is at 52-week low. The upside: It has trimmed
its work force, slashed costs and re-positioned its
product line. Don't waste your time pondering whether
CEO Eric Schmidt will right the company. It looks
increasingly likely Novell will find a suitor. Industry
watchers favor IBM.

My take: Let's hope this happens. There's nothing
worse than watching a good company bleed to death.
Novell could be a real bargain -- what with its huge
installed base, its premier networking technology, its
$1 billion in the bank and its low, low stock price right now.
