I am not sure if you attended any of Howard Dean's rallies. The one I attended, he has the attendees rocking. Fiery speeches, great sounds etc.

Then, in the debates he had to go head to head with other nominees. In one of those debates, the one in the Carolinas (I forget exactly where) Kerry tore Dean apart. Kerry was very forceful, looked him in the eye, with his natural stiffness, he repeatedly challenged Dean to answer his pointed question. And it became evident to the ordinary viewer that Dean was running away from the issue.

Kerry will adopt the same approach with Bush and when the Independents, who are sitting on the fence see that, they will go for Kerry for his steadfastness, perseverence and his ability to articulate his point of view.

Lastly, let me direct you to this post with emphasis on this sentence:

Kerry competed head-to-head for TV airtime with Bush, who spoke at an invitation-only town hall meeting of about 300 people in Beaverton.
