Today's Rasmussen poll results show that Bush has gained three points on Kerry during the last four days. August 10 Bush 46% Kerry 49% August 14 Bush 46% Kerry 47%
What this shows is that recent news has been bad for Kerry and good for Bush. This three point reversal in Bush's favor and against Kerry is an example of the power of the news.
Swift Boat Veterans ads are beginning to have an affect on the public's perception of the candidates.
Now, there are those who will crow that Kerry is still 1% point ahead of Bush. But a three point reversal in four days is nothing to sneeze at. And Kerry is really beginning to sneeze.
Remember this: Kerry's best days are behind him. His Convention appearances; his choice of a running mate; his free-time exposure to the American public. And NO Bounce. Nil, Nada, None.
On the other hand, Bush's best days are ahead of him. His free exposure at the upcoming Republican National Convention in New York City; the visual and verbal reminders of the 9/11 attack; Bush's strong and forthright and continuing response to terrorists around the world as a result of their declaration of war on the United States; the parade of personalities: Giulini, Schwarzennegger; McCain, et al; A visual presentation of the Republican Party's successes in bringing newly achieved freedom and a democratic vote to 52 million citizens of the earth; the results of a tax cut serving to rebuild an economy from the recession that Clinton willed Bush; a new and growing Prescription Drug Benefit for the Elderly; a continuing emphasis on the them of ownership--Americans taking ownership of their lives, their homes, their social security benefits, their communities.
Yes, Bush's best days are just in front of him. And by the time he gets to the Convention, The Swift Boat Vets will continue their successful war against that would-be phoney who would be president. The public perception is already changing rapidly as a result of their efforts.
Expect the Rasmussen Poll to continue to move dramatically in Bush's favor. The three point reversal of the last four days revealed in the latest poll results are a harbinger.
Happy Days Are Here Again. (Oh, I forgot. That is an old Franklin Delano Roosevelt themesong). But warrior that Roosevelt was, and a great Commander-in-Chief, I'll wager that he doesn't mind at all Bush stealing his famous song. In fact, I'll bet the Roosevelt is singing right along with the Republicans. |
