Bush Approval at 51%

The latest Gallup survey shows President George W. Bush with a 51% approval rating, up slightly from the 48% he has averaged since May. The presidential contest remains tight, with Bush leading Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry among likely voters by two points in a three-way contest that includes independent Ralph Nader, and Bush leading by three points in a two-way contest. A slight majority of Americans continue to disapprove of Bush's handling of the economy, foreign affairs, and the situation in Iraq, while a majority approve of his handling of terrorism.
