The book was carefully timed to come out right after the Democratic Convention, to burst the bubble of the usual post-convention 'bump', and before the Republican Convention, so as to not rob any of that thunder. The rumors of the book coming out have been circulating for months and months, with details leaking during that time.

Heavily orchastrated timing, with Rove no doubt as the main decision maker.
